::As she headed towards the harbor her gaze lifted to the heated rays of lar-torvis, it was only early afternoon and it was bloody hot...
the back of her hand drifted in a swipe along her brow as the majestic ships that littered the harbor came into sight. A confident stride
closed the distance to the wooded docks with ease. sea salt crunched under foot as she trasversed over aged temwood. She paused to ease the curve of hip
to a lean against the railing, arms folded loosely and casually at about her waist as her gaze scanned the docks slowly;:
~ Standing on the deck of the river galley Gitambi sent to slip # 33, Brinlar pauses after 5 ahns of hard labor to make the Dukembi's Folly shipworthy. No stranger to hard work, on his ramship he would work alongside common crewmem if need be, he is stripped to the waist, a rep cloth wrapping his head and tied at the base of his skull. Squinting in the late
morning sun, he peers along the wharves for any sign of his remaining crew or his woman~
::He had found another shady spot just outside the shipyard gate, on a small hill that was high enough to catch what little breeze was coming in from the sea. His kajira was lying close to his side and he gently ran his fingers through her hair as his eyes roamed constantly over the shipyard.::
..::she pushed from the lean her gaze dropped and she adjusted the damn sari she wore,...yes she had bought on today, it would afford her a better way to blend and well..let's face it, it was hot she headed towards the galley, the occasional glance was given
over her shoulder...in the past few days she had the uncanny feeling of being watched....old habits die hard and she had learned to listen to her gut. As she approached the ship she glanced to the gangplank resting against it and then down to herself ....a slight murmur drifted past lips but it didn't stop her from starting the climb upwards::..
~ resting corded arms on the starboard railing, Brin espys Sheera and offers her one of his patented dazzling smiles, calling down to her~ I do like that new look, Sheera. It should be fun unraveling you out of that tonight... ~ No time has he had since they were reunited for more than an occasional kiss or a squeeze of her curves, so busy has he been~ Come aboard, love...she is not the Quietus..but..she will serve our purposes nicely
::He had spied the captain as soon as he found his watching place. He was surprised to see a beautiful woman join him on what looked to Salty, like a vessel that was in danger of immediate sinking. He shook his head in puzzelment. ..he did not care for boats, he preferred feeling the ground under his feet. Salty wondered if the woman was to be part of those who were to make this mysterious journey. It would be nice for his kajira if there were other females involved. Well, he was a patient man, a trait of his people, and he would wait and see what if any, other persons came to the vessel.::
::his head came up from below deck on the galley, his eyes narrowed from the bright la'torvis rays, his huge form comming into view as the last few steps up the inner ladder were taken looking about at the additional work to be done he gave a grunt as he looked and to Brin. Seeing the familiar woman he looked to her then Cap'n what's he chargin you for this heap? ::he looked about knowing it would be sufficent for their travels, at least for now and if by any measure of luck were to be applied it would be by the sheer graces of the Kings:: ::heavy booted feet moved him closer to Brinlar and his woman, a grin quirked as the blue gray orbs looked to her:: Tal Sheera
..::she shot him one of those infamous "looks" for his comment about her garb. A slight murmur as she boarded the ship sure she would have to live thru comments from Renn and Thurnock as well. Her hands settled on her hips as she reached the deck and that glacial gaze of her's cast an assessing gaze along the ship, her steps started once more towards Brin and as she passed Thurnock a single finger was lifted his way to stay him::.. not a word Thurnock..::as she reached Brin a hand settled flat palmed to his chest, a lift to her toes brought lips to a delicate press against his, she glanced over her shoulder and back to Thurnock::.. and Tal, too
~ Brinlar has already decided that the Schendian shipwright will be paid a visit upon thier return, for his blatant insult the Dukembi's Folly most certainly is, so he just looks at Thurnock and shakes his head. Sliding one arm round Sheeras waist, he leans down and returns her caress of lips, then straightens and chuckles, the feel of a ship beneath him, no matter what her condition illiciting that sparkle in those entrancing silver-grays~ Well, Now that we have a vessel, later we will go to Silenti and inform the merchant we are ready to depart. ~ He looks over to Thurnock~ Renn or Mateo turn up yet, oh large one?
::Salty caught movement out of the corner of one eye and turned his head to focus on the source. He smile curled his lips as he spied a large black man, hiding in some bushes at the bottom of the hill. The black man had no way of seeing Salty and besides his gaze was steady on the sad looking vessel on which Salty could see the captain, the huge man known as carpenter and now the woman. Interesting, Salty mused to himself, this city is full of spies and secrets. What have you gotten yourself into desert warrior? It is of no matter, he answered himself, if the coin is paid to me as promised. Perhaps I should tell those on that vessel of this spy?
::his brow quirked as the hues of blue gray looked to Sheera as she passed him, that finger brought up causing his eyes to almost cross as he chuckled, his head craned forward as she continued her stroll, he
couldn't help but blow a low whistle of appreciation for the beauty and good taste the Captain had in women, of course the whistle was cut short as he saw her turn to look towards him a look of "I didn't do it" carefully guarded as he flashed his own roguish smile, his head now fully upright he looked from
her up to the Captain and and brought his hands up under his chin ::hmmm Aye Cap'n they were on the Quietis earlier.
..::a soft laugh allowed in a drift past the sentry of lips, she shook her head lightly and then just shot him a quick wink, turning back to Brin::.. I got that feeling again Brin...on my way here..::she had told him about her feelings of being watched, her instincts usually weren't wrong...her survival had often depended on it....but with that being said she
quieted to let them talk and her inspection of the ship started once more::..
~ his smile dims a bit and he nods, giving her a squeeze with that muscular arm~ Aye...I have felt eyes on my this whole morn..but..none on the wharves that I could see....not that I am overly
concerned. what do they see? A few white men working on a dilapidated galley? Kings..if that is worth spending time in this heat for..then..have at it. ~ Chuckling he glances to Thurnock~ Get those leaks in the hull tarred yet, carpenter?
::The black man wrote something on a piece of rence and then slipped away and ran quickly toward's the city. Salty decided he would tell those on the vessel of the spy. He reached down and patted his kajira on her sweet butt to wake her and the two of them walked down the hill, into the shipyard and directly to those on the vessel. "Tal Captain and to you carpenter. I have again two questions for you."::
::as Brinlar spoke to Sheera he walked to the railing, large hands raised his fingers curled over the top, he put the weight of his body into a good hard shake of them, -sturdy enough- he thought as he moved closer and bent to lean his weight against it, glancing over his shoulder then back out over the harbor he leaned to look down over the side hearing Brinlars question he turned to lean sideways to it
and opened his mouth to speak, just as he did so a loud groan and crack was heard as the railing caved outward about then all that could be seen was his arse up and moving headfirst to the drink.. behind him echoed:: AYE CAP'N ::a loud splash heard he bobbed up to the surface cursing the kings and swam for the rope pulling himself up, his head comming back up over now the bow of the ship he looked to Brinlar, and exclaimed:: Chit!
..::she nodded lightly towards Brin, his words true enough though that uneasy feeling remained with her, she had been caught off guard once, that wouldn't happen a second time....Salty's voice drew both her attention and that glacial gaze, the lift of finely sculptured brow was subtle....it was a bold and assessing gaze that would greet the man...as fate would have it, it was short lived...the CRACK sounding just about then she turned in time to watch Thurnock ass over tea-kettle being promptly delivered into the drink...how could she help but snicker? And such a smooth delivery it was
for him teasing her::.. See how the priest-kings punish you for wicked thoughts?
~ his attention as he saw Salty diverted at the
sound of the railing snapping like a twig, his head swiveling around , seeing Thurnock absent from view. Laughing he calls to him, just as that overly large head pops into his line of sight~ You are supposed to hop OVER the railing if you wish to cool off, oh large one..Over..not THROUGH it...Kings..~ shaking his head, a dazzling smile still formed he turns back to Salty~ you again I see...should I expect this every day? You appearing with your 2 questions? ~laughing~ Come aboard, Sir...and ask your questions.
::Salty shook his head, "I'll not climb on to that pile of sticks, your carpenter has just answered my first question, no sir, I shall use my feet against the ground to move. My second question will require a verbal reply only. Why would a large black man, hide in bushes to watch you and your people, and then write on a sheet of rence and run quickly into the city?"
::pulling himself fully on deck and being very agile for a man his size his large hands came up pushing the hair from his face and wiping the water off his skin as he looked to Salty, ahh a nickname for the
man came to mind. He looked back at the broken railing, then hearing the question he turned back to look towards Salty, his gaze quckly looking about,
scanning in the distance to see if he could spot anything, then comming to rest on Brinlar, walking towards him he leaned speaking low:: I'll pass
word along Cap'n ::he looked to Sheera, then back to Salty before speaking quietly to Brinlar again:: I think I will call him two pop ::it seemed logical to him, every time the man had been conversed with, he popped two questions, he stood back and glanced to
Brinlar, then back again to Salty::
..::she had been watching Thurnock, entirely amused at that...right up until Salty delivered his question and wintery gaze of blue swiveled back to the man, she of course wondered who he was, but that would
wait. She glanced to Brin, then back to him before her gaze started a slow sweep along the docks::..
~ a soft chuckle at Thurnocks nickname of the man swathed in robes standing below the Folly, but Salty's question confirms what Brin and Arculeius talked about thier last meeting, and he shrugs, noncommital, not one to show surpise or emotion when the game is in play, as he just found out it is~ Perhaps the sight of 2 white men working on a ship in the middle of the day not a common sight? Kings..why do any of those of Schendi do anything? Perhaps you
Brinlar Sevarii: should have followed him and found where he ventured, then you would have sated your curiosity, aye? Oh..and..do not worry about my
bosklike carpenter here going through that rail. This ship is sound enough, and..~ he smiles without humor at Salty~ You should see him when he wishes to break something...not a pretty sight...
::Salty bowed to the captain, "You know I am but a humble merchant with little interest in ships, but when I saw the man spying on you, it was only out of one merchants courtesy to another merchant that caused me to tell you what I saw. I shall bid you, your carpenter and the beautiful woman good day. May you always have water, may you always have salt." He turned about calling to the kajira, "Come along beast, it is time for my bath."
::hearing the captain his smile became all white teeth, though not a joyful smile one might notice, but one curled back in a rather intimadating fashion, he had broken more than a few men in half with his bare hands and nothing he was ashamed of, yet hearing the words of the merchant, tho unshown was a bit bothersome, as for the condition of the Folly, that could and would be quickly and easily repaired, he then looked back to Sheera before his gaze shifted finally to Brinlar:
..::an impermeable gaze of ice resettled on Salty as it seemed he was going to depart, the intrusive study once more began without the slightest attempt to mask it, a questioning gaze turned to Thurnock, he apparently knew the man too, but it wasn't until her gaze settled on Brin that she voiced her question::.. who was that?
~that perfect disarming smile of his directed at Salty and he bows his head in return~ A pleasure as always to be able to satisfy your curiosity, oh "humble" merchant. I look foward tomorrow for your next set of questions posed...~ For someone with little interests in ships..why has he been in the shipyards the day before last , and why was he here today? On that note..how was it he saw this spy watching the Folly unless he was as as well? ~ May the winds fill your sails, Sir
::he looked back to Sheera having heard her question and spoke in a tone rather flat:: An odd fellow, claims to be a merchant ::he looked back to the mans back as he walked off noting again the two scimitars,
odd that a merchant a set him to thinking, his eyes again scanning the docks and shorelines he moved to the side talking to one of the men he brought with him and motioned him off with a grunt before turning to regard Brinlar and Sheera again:: Aye, two pop
..::as Thurnock answered her her gaze remained trained on the man, obvious it was there was more to him then meets the eye, that seemed to hold true for all that she had met so far concerning this "quest", she glanced to Brin before heading for the splintered railing, now...her faith in these two men and their abilities was unquestionable, however, she couldn't help but ask as she plucked away a piece of splintered railing::.. ummm, this thing will make it the entire way I trust? ..::she laughed at the name Thurnock voiced once more and she turned back to face the two.::... otherwise we might be venturing into my territory..::she meant the thick of the jungles and yes a quite deliberate and possibly even a taunting wink was delivered Thurnock's way::..
~Watching Salty until his robed form disappears into the throng of people moving to and fro along the wharves, Brinlar turns back to Sheera and Thurnock, a brief smile offered his woman~ The Folly will reach as far as we need go, Sheera..and..after that..we will be in your "territory", if you must know...where we go from there I as yet do not know..but..the
merchant does....
::his head swiveled about as he heard Sheeras words, he laughed as he spoke:: we've set sail on worse than this Sheera, made it where we needed to go and back
Thurnock Scormus: ::then pausing as he heards Brinlar speak, his eyes looked off once again in the direction the merchant stroke off to:: Aye, he does,
and I'm not liking the feeling Cap'n ::he turned again making a mental note of the repairs needed to be effected before they left, as much as it looked that needed to be done, it was less than their ship::
..::she nodded as they both assured her the ship would make it but as Thurnock voiced his concern, she was hard pressed not to add her own::.. I think there are a lot more players in this little game then we are being made privy to Brin...::she got that distinct impression when they were speaking to Arculeius at the tavern the other day and she got it again now..she motioned her head towards Salty::.. is he making the journey as well?
~ Brinlar simply shrugs those chiseled shoulders~
Kings..who knows what the players are? I would hazard a guess and say that one that just left is involved in some way. ~ he wipes the sweat from his face~ Time to get out of this sun though..I am sure we will find who will be on this venture with us tonight...at Silenti.
::he would only listen at this juncture, his mind working more on the work ahead of him to make this one, well named a bit more sturdy, looking down to the decking he let his eyes roam over it for weak spots, then up along the bow he turned his head back and looked up the mast, every inch to his trained eye gone over in his mind, he seemed intent on getting it
ready but would not miss a word exchanged unless it wasn't his affair::
..::she nodded to the proposal of getting out of the sun, as she lifted a glance to the heat of the afternoon sky she wasn't about to argue::.. You've both worked hard today, we should go and get something to eat and drink and maybe find Renn, I can't believe he hasn't come to say Tal to me!
~ nodding he gives the hulking carpenter a look~ Think she will stay afloat until we return? no sense in toiling any longer, the heat is stifling..and..unlike you, oh large one..I did not cool myself..~ flashing that grin at Thurnock, stripping the soaked rep cloth from his head, running fingers through the shock of mocha-hued hair, then looking for where he hung his loose fitting tunic of sea green~
::his head comming about he looked to Brinlar with a
chuckle and nod:: Aye, Cap'n she'll float, it's the deck and rail that need fixing, that should take half a day ::his hand lifted he pointed to the wheel where his tunic hung:: I think the heat must be getting to you Cap'n, Sheeras idea sounds like a worthy one to consider, unless of course you yourself would like to
take a swim?
~ Tell you what, Thurnock..go find Mateo..he needs to be
with us tonight..I will meet you here once the 13th ahn has passed.
Aye, I'll go find Mateo, Cap'n and meet you and Sheera later ::with that the hulk of a man walked down the planking to the docks and off towards the Quietis's mooring, quickly out of sight::
~ collecting his tunic, along with a rep cloth to wipe down his sweat-streaked body, Brinlar takes Sheera by the arm and heads to the gangplank and down to the pier~ Come, my panther...I wish to spend some
time with you....alone..
..::she bid her farewell's to Thurnock but you can bet Brin's words caught her attention, and she slipped a sideglance and a grin his way::.. I have the distinct feeling it doesn't involve...cooling off
~laughing he just winks at her and he leads her from the docks towards the thoroughfare that will take them towards the destination he has in mind~

and I'm not liking the feeling Cap'n ::he turned again making a mental note of the repairs needed to be effected before they left, as much as it looked that needed to be done, it was less than their ship::
..::she nodded as they both assured her the ship would make it but as Thurnock voiced his concern, she was hard pressed not to add her own::..
