Captain Brinlar follows his gut as they work their way up the Nyoka River
Amanita Vernia: They were now moving down the Nyoka River, but the merchant was still not aboard, this caused Arculeius to pace the deck. His nausea was put out of mind, the tea TaSheera had given him helped some, but his stomach was now in knots for other reasons. Amanita. They couldn't wait at the docks for Krakatoa's men to attack again, it wouldn't take much tharalarion oil to torch the galley and despite Salty's worry that the boat might sink, it was the least of their troubles. She'll be at the exchange point... that's where she'd go... that's where the guard would lead her, through the marsh. Arculeius had convinced himself that waiting was doing no good, that they needed to move and the merchant would be thinking along those same lines. He didn't know the guard he ordered to watch her had been killed in the house or even if she got out the tunnel, but in his heart, he knew she had to be there.
Brinlar Sevarii: :: Brinlar stands atop the sterncastle, hands on the tiller, silver gray eyes watching the river ahead. Thurnock and the Schendian guardsmen pulling at the oars, Mateo thumping the skins at 1/4 beat. He watches the nubian out the corner of his eye, more concerned with navigating and keeping the galley in the channel. Renn steps up beside him and murmurs "Cap'n...ain't we wastin' out time if the merchant lady never got out of that house?" Brinlar points over at the stalking Schen dian and chuckles softly " He hasn't acted like she is dead..so..for now we will continue"
Amanita Vernia: Would they go on with Amanita? Perhaps... if Arculeius had not made sure to hand the journal off to her not knowing if he would be the one to perish in the attack. She had been rushed to a safe place, this much he ordered, the guard escorting her was one he had enough trust in, though it was clear now that they had been betrayed. There was no other way that Krakatoa's men could of flooded into the house as quickly as they did if they didnt' have an inside man. Arculeius was looking at the rest of his men with suspicions now. Each of them with an oar in their hands moving the boat forward. He clinched his fist and thankfully didn't hear Renn's murmured comment. He was in too foul a mood to hear such a thing. He knew better than to think Amanita was dead, captured was more possible and he knew the woman well enough to know she wasn't an easy kill, she was a survivor like the rest of them. His pacing was doing no good, but Arculeius wasn't exactly knowledgable enough to help on the ship either. He didn't read, so looking at a map was useless, so he walked over to Brinlar. "We will wait at the exchange point for two days... if she doesn't show I will see your crew has at least a gold tarn a piece and the price you gave for this Galley, reimbursed." He said this, though they both knew the reason for taking on this expedition had less to do with profits and more to do with the conquest. It was something that had convinced the pirate to join them in the first place, a high risk adventure that would keep the adrenaline pumping.
Brinlar Sevarii: ::Brinlar calls out to Arculeius with a wry grin "You worry overly much, Warrior..if you do not change direction you will wear a hole in the decking..I am not totally certain how solid it really is..." That illicits a laugh from Renn, and an amused grin from the wiry Mateo from his seat before the staggered oarsmen. He knows Brinlars instincts and trusts them implicitly, after all thier time together on Thassa, if his captain had felt this was a waste of time, they would have never left the docks and headed upriver. Brinlar, still grinning, adds one more thing " They lady will be where she needs to be..I feel it in my belly"
Amanita Vernia: The dark skinned man glanced down to the path his sandaled feet were wearing into the floor boards of the deck, he stopped at the same time, then looked back up to Brinlar. It was a serious look at first, the one Arculeius wore 98% of the time. He was a serious man, though not exactly cold, he could warm when he wanted to and eventually that blank expression turned into a grin. He nodded knowing the pirate was right and trusting him the same as his men did even if they had not known each other nearly as long. They all knew that they would have to stick together to make it out of this venture alive and that had been true even before Krakatoa's attack on Silenti. "They say a sleen's gut follows his snout... do you smell my woman?" It was the first time Arculeius actually made reference to the merchant in such terms. He grinned to the pirate looking towards his stomach.
Brinlar Sevarii: Brinlar laughs, silver-flecked gray pupils shining as the stoic Schendian actually makes a joke. "Well, if you come take the tiller, I will go to the bow and flare my nostrils" In thier short aquaintence he has come to like and respect the dark-skinned warrior. Of course..the dashing pirate also knows Arculeius still witholds much, perhaps as the days pass, that will change.
Amanita Vernia: He did indeed make a joke, though he was out matched in that department and it was proven when Brinlar suggested that he take the wheel. That was funny enough by itself, but adding the jest about him flaring his nostrils at the bow got his shoulders to curl slightly as he chuckled deeply. It was a badly needed laugh after their run in at the house. Arculeius was quickly learning two things about Brinlar and his men. They knew how to fight and they knew how to laugh. Perhaps one make the other bearable and both were better than wearing a hole in the deck. "You are the best man to have at the tiller, Brinlar, as well as fighting on the same side with. Had you and your men not arrived, I doubt I would be here to pace. My thanks Cosian." Arculeius had turned back to his serious self, but his words were humble and needed to be said. As much as the merchant was on his mind, so was the issue of trust among men. Brinlar and his crew had proven themselves to him.
Brinlar Sevarii: There it is, that flash in those uncommon eyes, along with those pearly whites that dazzle both robed women and kajiirae alike. " Kings, man..that was the most excitement my men and I have had in hands. Besides.." He thumps his closed fist upon his left shoulder " We are both men who understand the bond when an oath is offered freely, aye?" Offering Arculeius what very few recieve from the Sleen of Cos...a salute of respect
Amanita Vernia: Recieving that salute from the pirate made him feel his own gut instinct about the man had been correct. He might of been a pirate, a man known to be as volitile as he was charming, but he was not corrupt at least not in a way that threatened the dark skinned man. A fist to his own shoulder, knocking three times, as he nodded to the man's words. "Indeed it is." His own salute returned to the man. It didn't matter that they were of different Home Stones or caste and codes, that was a universal sign of respect shared between men and they had a common goal. To face as much excitement and danger together and come out victorious on the other end.. it would be a long journey and by no means dull.
